Her first single “Hide Away” – from her self-titled debut EP – was a huge hit, going platinum with more than 185 million streams on Spotify.
But that’s nothing compared to The Chainsmokers’ single she features on, “Don’t Let Me Down,” which has had over 600 million Spotify plays. The track was also her first big hit in the charts.
Daya released her highly-anticipated debut album, “Sit Still, Look Pretty “ in October.
“It feels amazing. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. We spent a year and a half in that studio working on that, so yeah.
‘Each song has a piece of me on the album and I’m really excited for people to finally have it and be able to relate to it and connect with it hopefully and I’ll be performing a lot of the album songs live soon for the first time, so I’m excited for that,” she said.
“Sit Still, Look Pretty” was released as the second single from the album at the end of March this year and though it received mixed reviews from critics, Daya is proud of the song and of the message it conveys.
“It’s just kind of a commentary on what girls face sometimes in society. They’re told to look a certain way or act a certain way or you have to have a boyfriend to be happy or something like that, so I just want to remind young girls that you can focus on your work, you can be good at school, you can work hard in school and you can be successful in whatever you put your mind to. Girls can essentially do anything guys can and vice versa,” she opined. (Euronews)
