Miami - Astronomers from NASA's planet-hunting Kepler Space Telescope announced the discovery of a 'sibling' Earth, describing it as "something people have dreamed about for thousands of years".

The planet, named Kepler 452b, is similar in size to Earth and is located only 1,400 light-years away in the so-called Goldilocks zone of its solar system, where life is deemed possible thanks to temperatures that are neither too hot or too cold for water to exist. Kepler 452b, NASA said, is the most Earth-like planet ever encountered. It orbits a star that astronomers have dubbed our Sun's cousin and is 1.5 billion years older than ours, offering scientists a glimpse into Earth's own potential future when our Sun eventually dies out.
