"It's like cutting every ounce of emission due to electricity from 108 million American homes. By 2030 we will reduce premature deaths from power plant emissions by nearly 90 percent and, thanks to this plan, there will be 90,000 fewer asthma attacks among our children each year," Mr Obama said. The president recalled: "There have never been federal limits on the amount of carbon that power plants dump into the air. For the sake of our kids and for the health and safety of all Americans, that has to change; for the sake of the planet, that has to change." Going into the plan's details, the president explained that each U.S.
state will have the chance to put together its own plan on the basis of the different forms of energy sources currently in use. But "we want them to take action sooner rather than later because time is not on our side," Mr Obama said. The president added that in order to do this, they will have to collaborate with power companies. (AGI)
