Usain Bolt bade an victorious farewell to adoring fans in Jamaica by winning his final 100m on the island of his birth.

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist is due to hang up his spikes after the World Championships in London in August.

He spoke of his gratitude to the legions of fans on the island and across the globe:
“There’s no words, know what I mean? From world juniors the support that I’ve been getting from Jamaica I never thought I would reach this height in track and field, my only aim was to be a 200 metre Olympic champion, that was my aim until I’ve done what I’ve done and being a legend for me is something big and I wouldn’t have done it without the support of my parents, my close friends, my best friend NJ, I’ve really gotten your support from everybody and the fans of Jamaica really came out and support me and I want to thank you guys, I never expected this, thank you for coming out and thank you for showing the support that I’ve always expect and respect from you guys, thank you very much,” he said post-race.

Bolt also holds the 100 and 200 world records. (Euronews)
