Caracas (Venezuela) Las fotos de los centros vacíos de votación este 20 de mayo en Venezuela, fueron difundidas por las agencias internacionales Reuters, AFP y EFE, dan la vuelta al mundo.

Sin los principales candidatos de la oposición, con un tribunal electoral percibido como afecto al gobierno y en medio de críticas de muchos países que dijeron no reconocerán los resultados, Nicolás Maduro se enfrenta a dos rivales minoritarios que abandonaron el bloque opositor, y asegura que va a ser reelecto “presidente de la República”.

“Aquí hay que cambiar muchas cosas”, aseguró el mandatario luego de votar en Caracas. “¿Qué queremos los venezolanos? Una nueva economía, la que tenemos hoy no nos sirve porque ha sido infectada por el capitalismo”, reseña Reuters.

Venezuela, la nación con mayores reservas petroleras del mundo, sufre una recesión, hiperinflación y escasez de todo tipo de productos que deterioraron el tejido social y empujaron a más de un millón de venezolanos a abandonar su país.

Un nuevo triunfo de Maduro podría desatar sanciones petroleras de Estados Unidos y una nueva condena de países vecinos y de Europa.

Maduro culpa de la situación a una “guerra económica” de la oposición con apoyo de Washington para desbancarlo, pero sus críticos dicen que el mal manejo económico y los controles sobre la economía sumado a la caída del precio internacional del crudo que Venezuela exporta han desencadenado la situación actual.

Con sus líderes más populares encarcelados o con prohibición para postularse, la coalición opositora llamó a abstenerse para no legitimar lo que llama una “dictadura”.

“Yo no salí a votar (…), ya estos resultados se conocen antes de que empiece el día. Ganará Maduro y yo me preparo para emigrar, quizás dentro de un par de meses”, dijo Jouseline Martínez, una comerciante de 36 años, en la central ciudad de Valencia. “Esto no lo aguanta nadie”.

En la capital Caracas, en Maracaibo, Barquisimeto, San Cristóbal, y en la occidental Barinas se veía poca gente votando en los centros designados, según testigos de Reuters. Pero el gobierno dijo que en las primeras horas de la mañana ya habían votado 2,5 millones de venezolanos.

“Siempre pasa lo mismo, cuando la gente no participa gana el gobierno”, dijo José Rocha, un entrenador de boxeo que vive junto a un centro de votación señalando la calle casi vacía en Barquisimeto.

Aunque no se espera que le hagan sombra a Maduro, sus dos principales retadores son el exgobernador Henri Falcón, un exchavista que también pasó por la coalición opositora y busca conquistar a los oficialistas desencantados, y el pastor Javier Bertucci, que confía en movilizar el voto evangélico del país.

Cerca de los lugares de votación en distintas ciudades del país el gobierno instaló “puntos rojos”, puestos callejeros en donde se escanea el “carnet de la patria” que tienen muchos venezolanos, un documento emitido por el gobierno con el cual reciben beneficios como cajas de alimentos subsidiados y bonos.

La oposición dice que es una forma de asustar a los empobrecidos venezolanos que dependen de esa ayuda para que voten por Maduro. “Es descarado y ventajista”, se quejó Falcón después de votar en Barquisimeto, capital del estado occidental Lara, que el candidato gobernó desde 2008 hasta el año pasado.

“No es el día hoy para estar ofreciendo comida (…), me parece un descaro absoluto”, coincidió Bertucci.

Maduro ha llamado a los 20,5 millones de ciudadanos empadronados, desde las costas del Caribe hasta las sabanas del interior venezolano, a salir a votar.

“Como último voto que nos está pidiendo nuestro presidente le daremos el apoyo contundente para lograr un cambio en la economía, es lo que me inspira votar”, dijo Javier Guerrero, un docente de 38 años en San Cristóbal, cercana a Colombia.

Las autoridades agilizaron trámites entregando el sábado cédulas, el único documento válido para votar, para que los venezolanos que no la tenían puedan sufragar hasta las 18.00 hora local (2200 GMT), cuando cierran las urnas.

Y el gobierno ha acelerado también con su aceitado aparato la distribución de cajas de alimentos a precios subsidiados a los que menos tienen, el electorado históricamente más fiel al chavismo.

“Tengo tres hijos y con la caja me va muy bien”, dijo Janneth Pérez, de 39 años y residente de la inmensa barriada de Petare, en un mitin oficialista. “Seguiré apoyando a Maduro hasta que Dios salga de mí”.

Algunos empleados de dependencias públicas dijeron que recibieron mensajes en sus teléfonos en el que se los obliga a reportar si sufragaron.

“No voy a votar, para qué si ya sabemos. Es lo mismo de siempre. Prefiero venir a buscar el agua que la necesitamos que perder mi tiempo en eso”, dijo Raúl Sánchez, un comerciante de 48 años que recolectaba agua en una toma clandestina en la ciudad caribeña de Punto Fijo porque su barrio llevaba casi un mes sin el servicio.
