Asylum seekers hit peak figure of 800, 000 in Germany

Berlin - About 500,000 migrants have requested political asylum in the European Union. "This is not a Greek, Italian, German, French or Hungarian crisis. It is a global migration crisis which demands immediate and long-term joint actions," said an EU spokesperson.

Germany announced that the expected number of asylum seekers in their country would reach 800,000 by the end of 2015. The German Interior Minister, Thomas de Maiziere, released this information saying, "This is a true challenge which we will all have to face together. De Maiziere said that the expected figure was of 500,000 asylum seekers.

The Minister urged the European Commission to 'act against the EU member countries that do not accept to comply with their duties.' In 1992, Germany welcomed 438,191 refugees fleeing from former Yugoslavia. The currrent figure has broken a record. (AGI)
