Italy's Oscars shortlist submitted to Selection Committee

Rome - Italy's shortlist for the Oscar for the best film not in the English language includes nine films. The nine films include: "Leopardi" ("Il giovane favoloso") by Mario Martone; "Latin lover" by Cristina Comencini; "L'attesa" by Piero Messina; "Mia madre" by Nanni Moretti; "You Can't Save Yourself Alone" ("Nessuno si salva da solo") by Sergio Castellitto; "Non essere cattivo" di Claudio Caligari; "Per amor vostro" by Giuseppe M. Gaudino; "Sangue del mio sangue" by Marco Bellocchio and "Sworn Virgin" ("Vergine giurata") by Laura Bispuri.

The nine titles for the race to the Oscars were chosen among the films released in Italy between Oct. 1, 2014 and Sept. 30, 2015. The Selection Committee will be made up of Nicola Borrelli, Director General for Cinema of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities; composer Nicola Piovani; film director Daniele Luchetti; film producers Tilde Corsi and Olivia Musini; film distributor Andrea Occhipinti; Stefano Rulli, the president of the Experimental Film Centre Foundation and journalists Natalia Aspesi and Gianni Canova. The Selection Committee will meet on Monday, Sept. 28 at the offices of ANICA, the National Association of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Industries, which acts on behalf of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The nomination is due to be announced on Jan. 14, 2016, while the Oscars will be awarded in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016. (AGI)
