Paris - French actress and singer Magali Noel, who was featured in Federico Fellini's "La dolce vita" and played the sexy icon Gradisca in "Amarcord", died at 83 on Tuesday, only days away from her next birthday, her daughter announced.

Born Magali Noelle Guiffray in Turkey in 1931, she died in her sleep at her rest home in Chateauneuf-Grasse, France. She began her career in cinema in the 50s after debuting as a cabaret singer, joining the ranks of Brigitte Bardot, Jeanne Moreau, and Annie Girardot. With a filmography spanning some 80 films, her first success came with Jean Renoir's "Elene et les hommes" in 1956, which created her bridge to Italian cinema, through which she was immortalised as the epitome of Fellini's sexual fantasies. Her most famous song was "Fais-moi mal Johnny", a rock song which was banned in France due to its risque' lyrics. She married actor Jean-Pierre Bernard, with whom she had a daughter, and later adopted two boys during her second marriage. (AGI)
