Sergey Neverov is a United Russia Party member and the Duma’s Deputy Chairman, he told Euronews:“Today we see how the patriotic powers united and voted. We see that the programmes and suggestions that we discussed with our people have been supported and we are grateful to them for this.”
Liberal opposition parties failed to gain any seats and voter turnout declined sharply to 48 percent. Voter apathy is a hint that all may not be as rosy as it seems for Mr Putin.
“We will see the new State Duma (parliament), we will see new factions, we will see a new ‘United Russia’ which will undoubtedly work with all of the political parties represented in the State Duma” Sergey Neverov explained. “We will definitely work with those ‘separate’ members of parliament who haven’t got the parties’ support in general, if there are one or two people who make it to parliament. Members of parliament have the same status and we will work equally with everybody. Those issues and initiatives that have been supported by people at the election will be discussed, tackled and made a reality, we will work with everyone.” (Euronews)
