Prague - The Mosaics of Ravenna are due to go on show in Pilsen, in the Czech Republic. The artistic heritage of the Emilia-Romagna city will be on display at Pilsen Region's Library for Education and Research.

The exhibition, which will stay open to the public until Sept. 3, was organised with the help of Ravenna City Council and the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague. The mosaics on display are copies, absolutely faithful to the original, made in the 1950s and taken from the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, from the Basilica of San Vitale, from Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Sant'Apollinare in Classe, from the Baptistry of Neon and from the Archbishop's Chapel. "We are very pleased that Italy will present the exceptional artistic heritage of Ravenna in Pilsen, the 2015 European Capital of Culture," commented Italian ambassador, Aldo Amati, and the Institute's director, Giovanni Scioli. "We are sure that this exhibition - with its sequel which we will host in Prague - will reveal to a wide Czech public that priceless kaleidoscope of unique images represented by the Mosaics of Ravenna, adding a further element to the cooperation between Italy and the Czech Republic in the field of art and culture," they added.
