Rome - Theatre Does Good (www.ilteatrofabene.it) began work on Monday - a theatre and health information project for Mozambique, created and supported by the Eni Foundation (www.eni.com/enifoundation).

The project is coordinated by Jacopo Fo and Bruno Patierno, aiming to improve knowledge of health issues, particularly regarding maternity and infant care, in an area where the NGO Doctors with Africa (CUAMM) operates alongside the Eni Foundation. A group of seven Mozambican actors, selected from over 100, has just arrived in Italy to attend a 25-day course at the Free University of Alcatraz, in the hills above Perugia. A team of Italian actors, filmmakers and writers are working with the Mozambican actors to prepare a show that will tour the villages of the Cabo Delgado area, in the far north of the country, reaching an audience of around 25,000 people. Theatre Does Good will create a synthesis between the Macua and Maconde theatres and the Art Theatre with a new format, based on the dramatisation of health and food information, plus demonstrations and practice in using simple health aid techniques in daily life. The aim is to convey to local people, especially mothers and children, knowledge of good sanitary, hygiene and food practices. The actors will be supported by reports from Simone Canova and videos from Iacopo Patierno. (AGI)
