Polling stations have opened in the largest US battleground state of Florida, amid a tight race there between White House hopefuls Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Early postal voting had already begun in the Sunshine State.

Democratic nominee Clinton holds a three point lead over her Republican rival in Florida according to a new opinion poll.

Nationwide surveys put the former Secretary of State well ahead of Trump and on course to win the November 8 election to become the first female President in US history.

Our correspondent in Washington, Stefan Grobe, said:

“With just over two weeks until Election Day, both candidates are looking far ahead. While Donald Trump talks about his plans for the first hundred days of his presidency, Hillary Clinton is concentrating on tight Congressional races from coast to coast.

“Emboldened by polls predicting an electoral college Clinton landslide, her campaign is pouring resources into states like Indiana and Missouri. Not because Clinton thinks she can carry those reliably Republican states, but because she believes that, with an extra push, Democrats can win back the majority in the Senate.

“There are nine competitive Senate races, eight of which Republicans are defending. Clinton’s party needs a net gain of at least four seats to control the Chamber. And this would be a huge help for President Clinton in the White House.” (Euronews)
