The 51-year old has coached a total of 10 club’s in Italy’s top two division with his last job at Lazio.
He steered Lazio to a third place finish in the 2014/2015 campaign but struggled last season and was fired in April following a 4-1 defeat by neighbours AS Roma.
Pioli has signed a contract until the end of June 2018 and will reportedly earn 2 million per year.
He is Inter’s ninth coach in six years and at the helm replaces Dutchman Frank De Boer who was fired last week after 85 days and just 14 competitive games in charge.
Inter, who are enduring their fifth consecutive season without Champions League football, are currently struggling on the domestic scene and in Europe’s second tier competition.
Inter are ninth in the league, 13 points behind leaders Juventus, and bottom of their Europa League group. (Euronews)
