Caracas (Venezuela) - The Executive Secretary de la Mesa de la Unidad Democratic (MUD), Jesus Alberto Torrealba, announced yesterday, Thursday, January 19, that the Apostolic Nuncio in Venezuela, Aldo Giordano, informed members of the opposition that Msg. Celli will not attend the meeting for dialogue that is taking place in the country.

The text of the note sent to Fides reports Archbishop Aldo Giordano’s statement to Torrealba: "I wish to inform you that His Exc. Mgr. Claudio Maria Celli, has turned down his visit to Venezuela for the next days, therefore he will not participate in the scheduled meetings". Then he continues: "The undersigned, His Exc. Mgr. Aldo Giordano, Apostolic Nuncio in Venezuela, was appointed delegate of the Holy See for these possible meetings".
In recent days the press had released the position of the President of the Episcopal Conference of Venezuela (CEV), His Exc. Mgr. Diego Padron, regarding the dialogue between opposition and government, who believes that dialogue should continue, by completely changing the form and methodology because it had no clear purpose and lacked above all the implementation of the agreements.
Also yesterday, Torrealba had declared in response to Mgr. Giordano: "one perfectly understands the reasons that lead today the Holy See not to send in the current circumstances, the Pope’s delegate in Venezuela". "In diplomacy - added Torrealba -, absence can be a form of expressing presence and silence can become the most eloquent speech. Therefore we hope that this significant gesture (...) makes those in the national government, who have shattered the mechanism of dialogue with their systematic failure of acceptance and fulfillment of the agreements, reflect".
