Istanbul - Tension is rising to peak levels in Istanbul, after Turkey was targeted by two violent attacks in only a few hours. A bomb exploded in the Sultanbeyli police station, killing five soldiers.

A few hours later, two gunmen shot on the United States Consulate and fled with the police shooting after them. The governor of Turkey's Sirnak south-eastern province confirmed that five Turkish soldiers were killed in the explosion of a roadside bomb. The bombing and the attack on an army helicopter, in which one soldier was killed and seven were injured, was reportedly carried out by Kurdish militants in the same province on the border with Iraq and Syria. Kurdish militants have recently intensified their attacks on police and army forces after the government began to shell Islamic State fighters in Syria and Kurdish militants in Iraq, in what has been defined as a "synchronised war on terrorism". The U.S. Pentagon sent six F-16 airplanes to the army base of Incirlik on Sunday, within the scope of the operation launched by the international coalition against jihadist militias. (AGI)
