Manfred Moelgg was all smiles on Thursday as the Italian ended an eight year wait for another win on the Alpine skiing world cup circuit.

Meolgg mastered the strong winds to win a slalom race in Zagreb for his first victory since February 2009.

The 34-year-old was fifth fastest after the first run, but topped the field in the second for a combined winning time of just over two minutes.

It was his third career World Cup win.

Germany’s Felix Neureuther crossed over in second place seven tenths of a second behind.

It was his second podium finish of this season after placing third in the Solden Giant slalom in October.

Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen completed the podium places with third.

The 22-year old was hunting a third win of the season but had to settle for the last step of the podium in the Croatian capital.

Five-time and reigning overall champion Marcel Hirscher was well off the pace and crossed the line in sixth place while Grteat Britain’s Dave Ryding was seventh for his second top ten finish of the season.

The men’s world cup circuit nest stops off in Adelboden Switzerland this weekend for a giant slalom and slalom. (Euronews)
