Peruvian shamans have held a ritual to call on world leaders to try to achieve peace and democracy.

Photographs of the likes of US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were danced over as chants took place.

Shaman Juan Osco explained:
“We have come to do a special ritual today for peace between the United States and North Korea, because they using all of the best and modern weapons, but the world – above all – wants peace and for there not to be conflict, war, destruction or killings – enough! That is why we have gathered four teachers for the four cardinal points under the moon.”

A shrine was made at the site of the ceremonies, which took place on a hilltop overlooking the capital Lima. Lying near a replica of Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer statue was a framed photograph of embattled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

“We ask that a true democracy comes to Venezuela, and above all, that the entire world supports the people there who are fighting,” Juan Osco added.

Also known as medicine men, shamans are considered a national treasure in Venezuela. Many locals rely on them when traditional remedies fail. (Euronews)
