"We are examining whether there are any implications over trademarks," BMW said in a statement. In fact there are currently at least 130 trademark registrations in the United States that include the word "alphabet". It is unlikely that it will come to a legal dispute between Google and BMW. To prove a trademark infringement, a trademark owner would have to show that the new Alphabet created "confusion" among consumers between the two brands. Google's Alphabet is actually not active in the same sector as the BMW subsidiary, although the Silicon Valley-based group also owns a company that is testing driverless electric cars. (AGI)
