Rome - Islamic State (IS) has issued an appeal to migrants to return home, where they will be able to 'count on God and the Islamic State'. The video appeal, produced by Asawirtimedia, was broadcast on IS-related channels and "discovered" by WikiLao, whose site describes the well-known photograph of three-year-old Syrian refugee Aylan Kurdi lifeless on a Turkish beach featuring in the IS periodical Dabiq, captioned 'The danger of abandoning Darul Al Islam'.

The campaign has grown, appealing to 'all refugees from Christian coalition countries', and featuring a collage of images: migrants being turned back from and arrested on the Balkan front; migrant rescues in the Mediterranean; the logo of the Italian Navy; a song with mournful lyrics; witness statements with a woman saying 'they beat my husband' and boy 'we have been here for three days...with no food and water...they are treating us as if we were impure.' Another laments: 'They mistreated us in Turkey, they mistreated us in Greece and they mistreated us in Serbia, but the worst maltreatment was in Hungary. They lied to us saying that if we allowed them to take our digital fingerprints they would send us to Budapest, but we've been detained here and we can't go anywhere, not even to Germany.' After three minutes of this, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi intervenes in person, speaking in heartfelt tones to the refugees: 'Our hearts are broken. You have left your homes and your countries and now you are refugees. Come home, you can count on God and on the Islamic State. Here you will find human warmth and security. You are our families and we will protect you and your belongings. We want you to be dignified, safe and saved from Hell...Muslims live in dignity with us, they are financially well-off and spend their family and working lives under the umbrella of Sharia, thanks be to God. You must count on God and on Islamic State.' (AGI)
