British triple world champion Lewis Hamilton secured his fourth win in a row and sixth this season after a dominant victory at the German Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Mercedes driver started second on the grid, but quickly had pole-sitter and teammate Nico Rosberg in his rear view mirror.

As Hamilton shot off in front, Rosberg appeared to go backwards and by the first corner was in fourth place behind Red Bull pair Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen – a position Rosberg kept until the chequered flag.

Ricciardo, on his 100th grand prix appearance, took second and Verstappen third while Ferrari duo Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen finished fifth and sixth respectively.

With the win Hamilton increased his championship lead to 19 points over Rosberg as the F1 boys now take a four-week break before resuming hostilities at the Belgian Grand Prix, a race Hamilton won last year.

Sunday’s triumph was Hamilton’s 49th career victory, which leaves him two adrift of Frenchman Alain Prost’s mark of 51.

Mighty Meeke wins in Finland

Kris Meeke became the first British and only the sixth non-Nordic driver to win Rally Finland in it’s 65-year history n Sunday.

The Citroen man led for almost every kilometre of the four-day gravel test to end Jari Matti Latvala’s hopes of a third consecutive victory on home roads.

It was Meeke’s second win of the season after Portugal in May and only his third career triumph on the World Rally Championship.

Northern Ireland’s Meeke finished 29.1sec clear of Latvala in a Volkswagen Polo R while Ireland’s Craig Breen celebrated a maiden podium placing with third in his Citroen, a further 1 minute and 12.2 seconds back.

Frenchman Sebastien Ogier, who crashed out of contention on the opening day, still leads the championship standings on 143 points, Andreas Mikkelsen is second on 98 while Latvala in third overall on 87 points.

Meeke is ninth on 51 points. (Euronews)
