An emotional Faith Kipyegon for Kenya has won Olympic gold in the women’s 1500m final at Rio in a time of 4 minutes 8.92 seconds.

With devastating speed in the second half of the race she left the Ethiopian world record holder Genzebe Dibaba trailing in second place .
American former world champion Jenny Simpson took bronze.

There has been another Jamaican track win, but this time in the men’s 110m hurdles. Omar McLeod raced to victory in 13.05 seconds to become the country’s first ever Olympic champion in the event. Cuban-born Orlando Ortega took silver for Spain and Frenchman Dimitri Bascou clamed the bronze.

And in the high jump Canada’s Derek Drouin cleared a height of 2.38 metres to clinch the gold medal. Drouin is the reigning world champion.
