A Jamaican sprinter has once again shone on the track on Day 12 in Rio. Elaine Thompson stormed to victory in the women’s 200m in 21.78 seconds adding to the 100m gold she won on Sunday.

World champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands came in second and America’s Torie Bowie grabbed bronze.

In the 100m hurdles the USA reigned supreme taking gold silver and bronze. Brianna Rollins claimed victory in a time of 12.48 seconds. Nia Ali and Kirsti Castlin were second and third.
The American sweep was all the more remarkable given world record holder Kendra Harrison failed to make the cut as the US trials.

In the women’s long jump America’s Tianna Bartoletta leapt to a personal best of 7.17m taking gold while her team mate and defending Olympic champion Brittney Reese battled it out with Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic for second place.
Reese eventually took the silver with Spanovic taking bronze.

And late on wednesday day night in the women’s Beach Volley ball it was a win for Germany over hosts Brazil. Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst beat Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas de Freitas in two sets 21-18 21-14. (Euronews)
