Rieti, (Italy) - Firefighters early on Monday retrieved the body of a woman from under the rubble of the Roma Hotel in the earthquake-stricken mountain village of Amatrice after three days of uninterrupted work.

The woman was sleeping in a first-floor room when the 6.2-magnitude quake struck at 03:36 on August 24, and was buried under four meters of debris. Rescuers had to cut through beams that obstructed the way.

Two bodies still remain under the rubble of the hotel, which was flattened by the quake that left a total of 292 people confirmed dead in Amatrice and the hamlets of Accumoli and Pescara del Tronto.

A search is still ongoing for 10 people who went missing in Amatrice, where 229 are confirmed dead. Another 11 died in Accumoli and 50 were killed in Pescara del Tronto.

About 2,500 people have been displaced by the initial earthquake, which so far has been followed by 2002 tremors ranging from 3-5 magnitude on the Richter scale, officials said. (Ansa)
