Bastian Schweinsteiger couldn’t hold back the tears as he was honoured before playing his final international game for Germany on Wednesday.

The 32-year old Manchester United midfielder made his Germany debut in 2004 and hangs up his international boots 12 years later having earned 121 caps and scored 24 goals.

He ended his career on a winning note as Germany beat Finland 2-0 in a friendly in Gladbach.

Schweinsteiger helped German win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and is his nation’s fourth most-capped player of all time.

He received another standing ovation on the 67th minute of the game when he was substituted.

Ten minutes later Germany scored their second on the night to send their former captain off in style. (Euronews)
