Leghorn - Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi has met the management and staff of the Leghorn refinery as part of the company's 'Programma Sicurezza Italia' safety information campaign. He visited the Taranto refinery last May on the first leg of the Safety Road Show, one of Eni's major safety and training awareness initiatives.

Mr Descalzi confirmed the positive safety results achieved by Eni and the Leghorn refinery in 2014. A statement showed that the number of accidents had fallen for the 10th year running, accounting for 0.31 accidents per million working hours, as demonstrated by the many industrial facilities with zero accident track records. Overall accident indices fell 14 percent compared with 2013, and the first quarter of 2015 saw a further 15 percent improvement. These results place Eni ahead of its leading international competitors in terms of safety. Eni's commitment to safety at a global level is also demonstrated by the positive accident indicator trends at the Leghorn refinery, which has distinguished itself for its safety records, achieving its zero accident goal for around 400 employees for three years running. The safety of people and operations is one of Eni's strategic objectives, and the company continues to launch new awareness and training campaigns for staff, contractors and all its social partners. As well as the Safety Road Show, Eni's major campaigns include Eni in Safety, the Safety Day and the HSE Van Show. The HSE Van Show is the most recent of Eni's health and safety initiatives, launched at the Leghorn refinery on May 26. This is a travelling exhibition, calling in at 42 industrial facilities and many service stations to promote Eni's commitment to safety and the environment. At the end of his visit, Mr Descalzi said: "As well as recognising and expressing my appreciation for the safety results achieved by the staff at Leghorn, I repeat the company's intention to achieve zero accident and zero fatalities results. Safety is a fundamental value for the company and the focus of our strategies. It must involve everyone, from the management down, because it is only by pulling together that we will be able to achieve the ambitious yet crucial goals we have set ourselves." (AGI)
