Andrea Iervoino and Monika Bacardi's AMBI group (The Humbling, In Dubious Battle, All Roads Lead to Rome), has announced that it has clinched a deal with the Fellini family and heirs. AMBI will finance and remake the film with Italian producer Daniele Di Lorenzo, through his LDM Productions company, and oversee global distribution by its international division, AMBI Distribution. Fellini's niece, Francesca Fellini, said the family had been approached "countless times" to consider "everything from remakes and reimaginings to prequels and sequels." She added that the family knew it would take "very special producers and compelling circumstances" to motivate the family to sign over the rights. "Andrea, Monika and Daniele have a great vision for a modern film and given their Italian heritage, their great appreciation and knowledge of my uncle's work, I know there could not be a better alignment for this project." Andrea Iervolino sought to put film-buffs' minds at rest, saying that "all the elements that made La Dolce Vita an instant classic will be ingredients in this new film. Our vision is of a contemporary story every bit as commercial, iconic and award-worthy as the original." He added that these were lofty ambitions, but they had to be bold if they wanted to give the film its original imprint. It would be a splendid version. Producer Monika Bacardi added that there were "some films that transcend the years, and La Dolce Vita is unquestionably one of these. One couldn't wish for better in a film that provided such a basis on which to work or better inspiration." It was now their responsibility to come up with something worthy of the original. (AGI)
