FEI European Championships 2015 - Aachen (GER)

The Netherlands took yet another team gold at the FEI European Championships 2015 in Aachen (GER) today, claiming the Driving title and keeping the host nation pinned down in silver by just 3.58 penalties.   But it was Germany’s Michael Brauchle who took individual honours by the slimmest of margins – 0.21 – with Dutch challengers IJsbrand Chardon and Koos de Ronde filling the lower steps of the medal podium.   The FEI European Championships 2015 in Aachen, one of the world’s most famous equestrian venues, finish tomorrow, Sunday 23 August.    The Championships offered qualification places for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifier in both Jumping and Dressage. Spain, Sweden and France secured their Dressage spots for Rio 2016, the first Olympic Games to be held in South America, thanks to their performances during the first week in Aachen. Spain also earned qualification for Rio in Jumping, along with Switzerland and Great Britain.    There were two sets of Vaulting medals on offer today, with the Germans taking a clean sweep in the Male Freestyle Final. Jannis Drewell took gold with a mark of 8.369 ahead of compatriots Thomas Brusewitz (8.343) in silver and his brother Viktor in bronze (8.157).   The hosts were also on the podium for the Pas de Deux Final, but the top step was occupied by Austrian pair Jasmin Lindner and Lukas Wacha, the reigning world champions who successfully defended their European title. Pia Engelberty andTorben Jacobs took silver for Germany ahead of Austria‘s Evelyn Freund and Stefanie Millinger.   The final medals are on offer tomorrow, with the crowning of the individual Jumping champion at 18.15 Central European Summer Time (action starts at 16.00), along with Vaulting – Female Freestyle Final (11.15) and Squads Freestyle Final (13.10).
